BRITMATION: Animation on screen in 1992!


Bob's Birthday
March 26, 1992. The day before the Oscars. Channel 4 shows 3 animated shorts that were nominated. The first was The Big Story, in which "a hard-bitten reporter battles an unresponsive editor to get the big assignment. Triangle, an abstract piece by Erica Russell, commissioned by Channel 4, "shows a couple's relationship undergoing change after meeting a Shamaness." Bob's Birthday by Alison Snowdon and David Fine, "tells the story of a dentist, his 40th birthday, and an explosive midlife crisis. Harry Enfield played Bob.


Creature Comforts
June 3, 1992. Channel 4 viewers who tuned in at 9.45 pm saw Plasticine People, a fifteen minute series on people and organizations in the world of plasticine. After "a visit to the editorial office of a weekly publication", viewers saw a re-showing of Nick Park's Oscar-winning Creature Comforts.


The Sandman
Sunday, June 7, 1992. The Sandman made its debut on Britain's Channel 4. It was part of Four-Mations UK, "a five-week season of British animation." The Sandman was Paul Berry's film "of a boy's night time fears. Also shown on the half-hour program was The Kings of Siam, "Ged Haney's story of Siamese twins in a fairground sideshow."


Romeo and Juliet
On November 30, 1992. Shakespeare: The Animated Tales. A series on BBC2 which presented six of Shakespeare's "best-loved tales" as told through Russian animation, with text abridged by Leon Garfield.
Romeo and Juliet. With the voices of Linus Roache (Romeo), Clare Holman (Juliet), Jonathan Cullen, Greg Hicks, Charles Kay, Maggie Steed, Brenda Bruce (Nurse), Garard Green and Brenden Charleston, and narrated by Felicity Kendall.


Efim Gamberg was the Russian animator in charge of creating Romeo and Juliet.
