  • Stanford Cardinal
The Cardinal, ranked above the Lady Vols at the beginning of the season, are falling down the ranks after several defeats...the latest one to the Lady Vols who won handily.
  • Recap. Audio of Pat Summitt Call in show, Candace Parker.

  • Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders
The Lady Vols were expecting a tough game from Middle Tennessee, for they had taken #1 ranked Maryland to the brink of defeat in their opening game of the season. But after the 8 minute mark the Lady Vols had this one under control, winning by over 20 points. Candace Parker hyper-extended her knee early in the second quarter and sat out the rest of the game.
  • Recap. Audio of Pat Summitt Call in show, Alex Fuller.

  • Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters
The Lady Vols had no trouble with the Techsters. Shannon Bobbitt was not at the game - she remained in Knoxville to study for upcoming tests. The Vols jumped out to a big lead early, but went into cruise control in the second half.
  • Recap. Audio of Pat Summitt. No call ins. (Dominique Redding interview not archived. Also has 1 minute of game video.)

  • University of North Carolina Tarheels
The Tarheels play defense for 90 feet - in other words they hassle the player with the ball from the time she receives it to the time she loses it, makes a bad pass, or puts up a bad shot. The Lady Vols turned over the ball a great deal, and most of the shooters had off nights. To lose only by 13 on such a night testifies to their own defensive skills.

  • University of Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks
Coming off their loss to UNC, the Vols took it out on Tennessee-Martin. The game began sloppily, but the Vols soon pulled away and acquired a 20-point lead. Coach Summitt sat her starters for most of the second half.
  • Recap. Audio. Pat Summitt. Sidney Spencer.

  • George Washington Colonials
George Washington began the year ranked in the top-25. They were undefeated except for a loss to the Maryland Terrapins. The Colonials played the Vols evenly for the first half, going in down only by 8 points. But soon in the second half the Vols took control and extended their lead by 20. In her post game show Pat Summitt praised Sidney Spencer for getting 4 rebounds - a record. She was not pleased with the bench play in the first half. The team now has ten days off so that the students can take exams.
  • Recap. Audio. Pat Summitt. Nikki Anosike.

  • Texas Longhorns
Texas was ranked #23 at the time of this game. Texas played the Vols tough during the first half, and Candace Parker had a poor shooting night. Sidney Spencer took up the slack, however, and the Vols took a comfortable lead in the second half. Jody Conradt, coach of the Longhorns, is the winningest coach of WCBB behind Pat Summitt.
  • Recap. Audio. Sidney Spencer as POG. Pat Summitt.

  • West Virginia Mountaineers
Another closely fought game. The Lady Vols won by 20 points but they only did that in the last few minutes of the game. Candace Parker dunked in this game, but was given a technical because she "popped" her jersey afterwards.
  • Recap. Audio. Pat Summitt. Alexis Hornbuckle as POG.

  • Old Dominion Monarchs
I attended this game, and took lots of photos. The Monarchs kept the game close for the first half, but the Lady Vols managed to pull away in the second.

  • Recap. No audio. (Shannon Bobbitt was player of the game.)

  • Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Lady Vols played the first half very tightly...or rather the Fighting Irish kept it tight. However, in the second half the Vols opened with a 12-2 run to take a lead that they never relinquished. In this time-span PG Shannon Bobbitt drained 5 3-pt shots. The Vols were short-handed: PG Cait McMahan was out with the flu and Nicci Moats was attending to personal matters.
  • Recap. Pat Summit show. Shannon Bobbitt - player of the game.

  • Alabama Crimson Tide
The Lady Vols had no problem with Alabama, winning with their second-highest margin, at 36 points. (They beat Tennesee Martin by 56 points.)
  • Recap. Audio of Pat Summit. Alexis Hornbuckle POG.

  • University of Connecticut Huskies
The Lady Vols almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory today, but managed to pull out the game in the last three minutes. The Vols had a good first half, ending it with a 12-point lead. They started the second half strong, jumping out to an 18-point lead...and then Candace Parker dunked the ball. It fired up the Huskies more than the Vols, and the Huskies went on a 30-15 run, tying the game at 60. But Sidney Spencer put in a 3-pointer, and the Huskies were not able to tie the game again. The Vols pulled out the win.

  • Florida Gators
The Lady Vols had a relatively easy game.
  • Recap. Audio of Pat Summit. Alexis Hornbuckle - POG.

  • Georgia Bulldogs
This was a rough game - physically - from the start. The refs 'let 'em play'.
  • Recap. Audio of Pat Summit. Nicky Anosike - POG.

  • Mississippi State Bulldogs
The coach of the Bulldogs is an old grad student of Pat Summitt's. Candace Parker had warmed up with the team and apparently expected to play, but had a respiratory infection, and the team doctor advised against it. She wasn't needed. After a quick start by the Vols, the Bulldogs did catch up and play them even for most of the first half, but the Vols pulled away in the second.
  • Recap. Audio of Pat Summit. Audio of Sydney Spencer - POG.

  • Duke Blue Devils
The Lady Vols failed mentally during the first ten minutes of this very important game, allowing Duke to open up with a 19-0 run and making it look very easy. Tennessee regained their composure in the second half, and managed to tie the game, but ran out of gas.
  • Recap. Audio of Pat Summit during press conference. Audio of Alexis Hornbuckle - POG.

  • Vanderbilt Commodores
The Commodores battled the whole game, and it was only in the last few minutes of the game that the Vols managed to seal the deal. Candace Parker was still affected by her respiratory illness, which had caused her to sit out the Georgia game.
  • Recap. Audio of Pat Summit press conference. Audio of Alexis Hornbuckle - POG.

  • Alabama Crimson Tide
The Crimson Tide hung tough with the Lady Vols for the entire first half, in a game where Candace Parker was clearly still feeling the effects of her respiratory illness from earlier this week. 5'2" point guard Shannon Bobbitt took up the slack in the second half, as did her fellow JUCO transfer Alberta Auguste. Alex Fuller produced in her longest outing to date, as Nicki Anosike played only ten minutes due to lack of offensive power.
  • Recap. Audio of Pat Summit press conference. Audio of Shannon Bobbitt- POG.

  • South Carolina Gamecocks
After a slow first five minutes for the Lady Vols, they surged ahead to a 15-0 lead before South Carolina was able to score. The Lady Vols were in control the entire way, despite the fact that most of the team had atrocious shooting nights. Sidney Spencer was 0-5, and scored only 4 points on free throws, Candace Parker was 2-8, and scored the rest of her 13 points on free throws. Most of the bench got quality minutes.

Before the beginning of the game Candace Parker was honored for being the quickeest Lady Vol to score 1,000 points, doing it one game sooner than did Chamique Holdsclaw. At halftime, Pat Summitt unveiled a gigantic Wheaties box with her picture on it. She's the first woman's basketball coach so honored.

  • LSU Tigers
This match-up was shown on ESPN2. Scrappy Tennessee built an 8-point lead at half-time with the work of Candace Parker and Shannon Bobbitt, while everyone else struggled mightily with their shot. LSU closed the gap within the first 2 minutes of the second half, and it was a close battle after that. A runner in the lane by Alexis Hornbuckle with just over a minute to go gave the Vols the lead for good - but very key were 8 quick points scored by Dominique Redding, who only played 8 minutes but sank two back-to-back threes.
  • Recap. Audio of Dominique Redding - POG. Audio of Pat Summitt show.

  • Arkansas Lady Razorbacks
The Razorbacks played the Lady Vols tough, sending them to their first overtime game of the season, but the Vols were able to pull out the win.
  • Recap. Audio of Candace Parker - POG. Audio of Pat Summitt show.

  • Vanderbilt Lady Commodores
This was Senior's Night, so Sydney Spencer, Dominique Redding and walk-on Elizabeth Curry were honored at the start of the game, and at the end.

The Commodores were able to keep it close during the first half, getting many Vols in foul trouble. However the Vols pulled away to a 20-point win in the second half - shooting twice as many foul shots as Vanderbilt.
