Turret affair under way
USS relic rerooted
Riggers from Lockwood Marine joined conservators from The Mariners' Museum on Tuesday to move the historic gun turretof the USS Monitor from its old conservation tank to the nearby site where builders are erecting the $30 million USS Monitor Center. The move marks a major step in the construction of the new museum, which will enable visitors to watch the conservation process when it opens in 2007. Above, riggers with jacks lower the turret off of its supports after the move.
