The mystery/crime/science fiction anthology radio series Suspense ran for 20 years, and in its heyday attracted the top Hollywood stars.
In 1950, comedian Milton Berle, at the age of 42 already a star, and on the merge of moving his program to television, appeared in "Rave Notice," with a script written by James Poe (of "Three Skeleton Key" fame). Berle plays an actor who is dismissed from a play, and in revenge, kills the director. In order to escape the death penalty, he pretends to be insane.
In 1958, actor Vincent Price, age 47, played the same role. (Their ages have nothing to do with the role, except that it shows that they're both at the peak of their powers.)
In the following videos which we've uploaded to YouTube, we compare the versions of Vincent Price and Milton Berle.
In each part, we present approximately 5 minutes of the Milton Berle vision, and then the corresponding Vincent Price version. (There are a few script differences, because the original version had commercials, whereas Price's version has shorter, public service announcements.)
