Buck Rogers 12-part serial (1939)

VCI Entertainment produced the Buck Rogers DVD in 2000. It features "animated motion menus," bonus serial trailers, and a photo gallery.

Buck Rogers starred Buster Crabbe, Constance Moore, Jackie Moran, and Anthony Warde.

We recommend you watch this serial ever February 6 - the anniversary of the release of the first chapter.

Buster Crabbe, fresh from his success in the first two of his three Flash Gordon serials (1936 and 1938), starred in Buck Rogers in 1939. His final Gordon serial, Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe, would appear in 1940.

Co-starring with Buster were Constance Moore as Colonel Wilma Deering, Jackie Moran as teenage sidekick Buddy Wade, C. Montague Shaw as Professor Huer, Jack Mulhall as Captain Rankin, Guy Usher as Aldar, and Anthony Warde as the villain, Killer Kane. Prince Tallen was played by Philson Ahn. (Ahn was the brother of Philip Ahn, of Kung Fu fame. He acted in only a handful of serials.

Chapter One

Chapter One: Tomorrow's World, introduces us to Buck Rogers and Buddy Wade, aviators who are trying to set a distance record with their dirigible. A scientist has equipped the dirigible with gas tanks that can put people into suspended animation. The dirigible does indeed crash, and it's buried in snow and ice for a thousand years.

Subsequent chapters do not have title cards, but rather have long blocks of text, scrolling upwards, explaining what has gone on before, superimposed over shots of space ships battling each other.

Presented on this page are two screen caps (one above the other) of each scrolling narrative.
